Search for “WhatsApp green tick” and you’ll find pages that promise to get you one. Meta doesn’t sell it, and neither does WaBot.
The badge is an Official Business Account. Meta’s own documentation now shows it as a blue checkmark beside the display name in the contacts view. People in India still call it the green tick. The rules below are Meta’s, not a shortcut.
What the badge does, and what it doesn’t
- It shows Meta has marked that phone number as an official business account. Customers see a check beside the display name.
- It helps people find you inside WhatsApp. Meta says a number without the badge does not appear when someone searches inside the app. Once they save the number, the display name still shows.
- It does not change message prices. Marketing, utility and authentication rates stay the same. India rates from 1 October 2026.
- It does not stop restrictions. Sending to people who didn’t opt in can still limit the account.
What Meta asks for
From Meta’s Official Business Account documentation, a number is eligible when all of these are true:
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Policy | The business follows the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy |
| 30 days | The number has been on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days |
| Business Verification | The Meta business portfolio that owns the number is verified |
| Two-step verification | Turned on for that phone number |
| Display name | Approved, and it’s the business name customers should see |
Meta reviews the request. Approval is not guaranteed, and a badge on one of your numbers doesn’t automatically cover your other numbers. If the display name changes later, Meta reviews the new name. If a request is rejected, Meta says you can submit again after 30 days.
The free WhatsApp Business app is not the WhatsApp Business Platform. The badge is requested for a number registered on the Platform, which is what the API uses.
How to apply
- Register the number on the WhatsApp Business Platform and use it for at least 30 days.
- Complete Business Verification for the Meta portfolio that owns the number.
- Get the display name approved. Use the real brand name, not a slogan, a city, or a staff member’s name.
- Turn on two-step verification for the number.
- In WhatsApp Manager, open the number and use Submit Request under the official business account section.
WaBot connects your number to the official API, which is the platform Meta’s request sits on. WaBot does not review, grant or sell the badge. Meta does.
Get the number onto the official API, then apply to Meta when you’re eligible.
A display name Meta can approve
- Match the name on your website and on your business documents.
- Skip generic names on their own (“Tours”, “Clinic”, “Offers”), all caps, emojis and prices.
- Don’t imply you are WhatsApp or Meta.
While you wait, customers can still message you. Answering quickly matters more than the badge for most small businesses. A shared inbox and an after-hours reply do that from day one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the WhatsApp green tick still green?
People still say green tick. Meta’s documentation for Official Business Accounts describes a blue checkmark beside the display name. It is the same kind of badge: Meta has marked that number as an official business account.
Can I buy a WhatsApp green tick?
No. Meta reviews the request in WhatsApp Manager. Anyone selling a guaranteed tick is not Meta.
Does WaBot include the green tick?
No. WaBot connects your number to the WhatsApp Business API. You apply to Meta yourself once the number meets Meta’s rules, including 30 days on the platform.
Does the badge make WhatsApp messages cheaper?
No. Prices depend on the message category and country. In India, marketing messages are ₹0.8631 and utility messages are ₹0.115, plus GST, whether or not the number has the badge.
Final thoughts
Apply when the business is verified, the display name is approved and the number has been on the platform for 30 days. Until Meta decides, put the team’s replies on an official number so customers get an answer anyway.
