You filled in your business details in Meta Business Suite, uploaded a certificate, waited, and the Security Center now says your business verification was rejected. Meanwhile your WhatsApp Business API number is stuck at 250 customers a day.
A rejection almost always means Meta couldn’t match what you typed to what your documents show: the legal name, the address or the phone number differ, the document was self-made, expired or unreadable, or your website didn’t load. Fix the mismatch (usually by changing the details in your portfolio to match your registration certificate exactly), then appeal or submit again from Security Center. And remember: you don’t need verification to start using WhatsApp, only to grow past the starting limits.
What business verification is, and what it unlocks
Business verification proves to Meta that your business portfolio (Business Manager) belongs to a real, registered business. Meta's help centre says it is needed for certain advertising, developer, billing and spending features. For WhatsApp, these are the walls it removes, from Meta’s developer documentation:
| Limit | Without verification | With verification | Meta source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customers you can start conversations with per day | 250 | 2,000 (then rises automatically with good quality) | Messaging limits |
| Business phone numbers | 2 | Up to 20 | Phone numbers |
| Templates per account | 250 | 6,000 (also needs an approved display name) | Business accounts |
| Official Business Account badge | Not eligible | Eligible to request (plus other conditions) | Official Business Accounts |
Two notes. First, verification is only one of three ways to the 2,000 limit: Meta also lifts it if a partner verifies you, or if you send 2,000 delivered messages outside the 24-hour window to unique customers in 30 days with high-quality templates. Details in how to increase your WhatsApp messaging limit. Second, the badge people call the green tick is a separate request; verification is a condition, not the badge itself. See the WhatsApp green tick.
Why Meta rejects business verification
From how to verify your business and why a verification submission is rejected in Meta’s help centre, the causes fall into a few groups:
- Name mismatch. Your documents must show your legal business name, and it must match the name in your portfolio. “Kalpana Sarees” in the portfolio and “Kalpana Textiles Private Limited” on the certificate is a mismatch. So is a missing “Pvt Ltd”, a different spelling, or your brand name instead of the registered one.
- Address or phone mismatch. The document must show your full business address, and it must match the address you entered. A mismatched phone number is also listed as a reason.
- The wrong kind of document. Meta rejects self-filed documents (filled in by the business without an official signature or seal), expired documents, and documents that don’t show the legal name. A visiting card, a letterhead or a self-typed declaration won’t do.
- A language Meta doesn’t support. Meta asks for an English translation with the translating agency’s official stamp.
- Website problems. A website that fails to load or isn’t on HTTPS is a listed reason.
- Trust issues. False or misleading information, claiming a business you aren’t authorised to represent, or trying to get around the review.
The single most useful fix: copy your legal name and address into the portfolio letter for letter from the certificate you’re going to upload. Same spelling, same “Private Limited” or “Pvt. Ltd.”, same pin code.
Documents for Indian businesses
Meta asks for official documents that confirm your legal name and address, such as a business licence or incorporation documents, and says that where a country has no fixed list, government documents that validate the legal business name and address are used. Meta’s country-by-country list lives in its Business Help Center; check it before you upload.
In practice, choose a government-issued registration that shows both your legal name and your address, for example your GST registration certificate or, for a company, the certificate of incorporation. If one document shows the name but not the address, add one that shows both together, such as a utility bill or bank statement in the business’s name. Make sure every document is current, complete (all pages) and readable.
| Your business | Name to enter in the portfolio | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Private limited company | Exactly as on the certificate of incorporation | “Private Limited” vs “Pvt Ltd”; old name before a change |
| Partnership / LLP | The firm name as registered | Partners’ personal names instead of the firm |
| Proprietorship | The trade name as on your registration (e.g. GST) | Using the owner’s name in one place and the shop name in another |
Udyam, shop and establishment and similar registrations are common in India, but the Meta pages we could read don’t name them. If you use one, it still has to show the same legal name and address as your portfolio.
How to fix it: resubmit or appeal
Verification is done by an admin of the portfolio in Meta Business Suite → Settings → Security Center, not inside WhatsApp or any provider’s app. Our step-by-step guide: how to verify your Facebook business.
- Read the rejection. Open Security Center and look at the status and reason. If you can’t find it there, Meta says to go back to where you started the verification.
- Fix the portfolio details first. Legal name, address, phone number and website, all matching the document you’ll upload.
- Fix the website. It should load over HTTPS and show your business name, address and contact details. A business email on your own domain (rather than Gmail) also helps when Meta asks to confirm by email.
- Pick the right document: official, current, with an official seal or signature, showing the legal name and address.
- Appeal or resubmit. Meta says that if your application was rejected you may be eligible to appeal and submit more information. Do it once, with the corrected details and documents.
- Confirm when asked. Meta may ask you to confirm by email, phone call, text, WhatsApp message or domain verification. Use a contact that matches the business.
- Wait. Meta says a decision may take up to 14 business days. Don’t change the portfolio details while it’s in review.
Some of Meta’s larger partners (Select and Premier Solution Partners) can also submit verification on your behalf, with up to three attempts; if those fail, the business has to verify on its own.
What NOT to do
- Don’t upload a different document each time without fixing the portfolio details. The mismatch stays.
- Don’t use your brand name as the legal name if it isn’t on any registration. Use the registered name for verification; the brand name belongs in your WhatsApp display name.
- Don’t create a new portfolio to start over. The new one starts with the same limits and needs the same documents.
- Don’t pay anyone who promises guaranteed verification or offers to “lend” a verified Business Manager. Claiming a business you don’t represent is itself a rejection reason, and your WhatsApp number would belong to someone else’s portfolio.
Related: display name and green tick
Meta starts the review of your WhatsApp display names after your business is verified, according to its display name article. Verification and display name rejections often share the cause: a name that doesn’t match. See WhatsApp display name rejected. Setting up from scratch? How WaBot handles this
Verification happens in Meta Business Suite, so WaBot can’t approve or speed it up. What WaBot does:
- Lets you start before verification. Connect your number, reply to customers and send templates within Meta’s starting limit while verification is in review.
- Shows your limit. The inbox shows your number’s messaging tier (for example “Tier 250”) and its quality, and the Updates feed records when Meta changes the limit, so you’ll see the jump once verification goes through.
- Helps you check before you submit. Send your portfolio name and the document you plan to use to hello@wabot.shop or WhatsApp +91 91889 12767 and we’ll point out mismatches.
Plans: Free (sign up and connect your number), Starter ₹840/month + GST (shared inbox and campaigns), Base Plan ₹9,240/year + GST (adds workflows). Meta’s message charges are billed by Meta directly.

Frequently asked questions
Why was my Meta business verification rejected?
Usually because the legal name, address or phone number in your portfolio doesn’t match your documents, or the document was self-filled, expired or didn’t show the legal name. A website that doesn’t load or isn’t on HTTPS is another listed reason.
Can I appeal a rejected Meta business verification?
Meta says you may be eligible to appeal and submit more information. Check the status in Security Center in Meta Business Suite, fix the mismatch first, then appeal or resubmit once with the corrected details.
How long does Meta business verification take?
Meta says a decision may take up to 14 business days. Partner-led verification through Meta’s Select and Premier partners is usually much faster.
Do I need business verification for the WhatsApp Business API?
Not to connect or start messaging. You need it (or one of Meta’s other scaling paths) to go past 250 customers a day, to add more than two numbers, for more than 250 templates, and as one condition for the official business badge.
Is business verification the same as the WhatsApp green tick?
No. Verification confirms your business to Meta. The badge is a separate request that also needs an approved display name, two-step verification and 30 days on the platform.
The bottom line
Meta verification is a matching exercise: the name, address and phone in your portfolio must be exactly what an official, current document shows. Fix the portfolio to match the certificate, make your website load properly, then appeal once. Meanwhile, your WhatsApp number can already work within the starting limit.
