10. Malayalam versions for Kerala customers

Christmas is the biggest festival week for many businesses in Kerala, and a message in Malayalam lands differently from an English one. These are short and plain. Have a native Malayalam speaker read them before you submit, and adjust the tone to your business. Submit each as its own template with the language set to Malayalam.

The rules for Christmas messages on WhatsApp

• Greetings and offers are marketing. Meta’s template categorisation guide puts festive announcements, sales offers and relationship messages such as “We wish you the best in the year ahead” in the Marketing category. Utility templates can’t contain promotions, so submit Christmas and New Year messages, including holiday hours sent to your whole list, as Marketing.
• Templates for anyone who hasn’t messaged you in the last 24 hours. When a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens and you can reply freely. Outside that window, only Meta-approved templates can be sent. Every message above is written as one.
• Only customers who opted in. Meta’s opt-in rules say businesses must get permission before messaging people, naming the business and saying what they’re signing up for. Give an easy way out, such as a “Stop offers” button, and honour it.
• Submit by early December. Meta reviews every new or edited template; its template guidelines say review can take up to 24 hours, and a rejected template can’t be sent until you fix and resubmit it. • Marketing messages cost money. In India a delivered marketing message is ₹0.8631 plus 18% GST, billed by Meta. See WhatsApp Business API pricing in India.
• WhatsApp may hold back marketing messages to people who already get a lot of them (Meta’s per-user limits). In Christmas week that’s many people. Send fewer, more relevant messages, and wait at least 24 hours before resending one that failed.

Sending plan for Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027

Christmas Day is Friday, 25 December 2026 and New Year’s Day is Friday, 1 January 2027, so both fall on long weekends. Couriers and banks will be stretched from around 23 December to 3 January.

How to send Christmas messages with WaBot

1. Create the templates. Go to Settings → Templates and click Add Templates. Choose the Marketing category, pick the Language (English or Malayalam; one template per language), write the body with a variable for the customer’s name, and add a Quick Reply button such as “Stop offers”. Save, and WaBot submits it to Meta. (Templates guide)
2. Wait for approval. The template list shows Pending, Approved or Rejected.
3. Organise your contacts. Under Contact → Groups and Contact → Tags, sort people by what they bought or which language they prefer, for example “Malayalam customers” or “Cake pre-orders”. See organising contacts with groups and tags.
4. Create the campaign. Open Campaigns → Create campaign. In Templates & Variables, pick the approved template. In Contacts, filter by Tag or Group and click Add all.
5. Schedule it. In Schedule, choose Schedule for Later and pick the date and time, for example 10 AM on 17 December. Check the summary and launch. (Campaigns guide)

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an approved template to send Christmas wishes on WhatsApp Business API?

Yes, for anyone who hasn’t messaged you in the last 24 hours. Outside that window only Meta-approved templates can be sent, and Christmas and New Year greetings go in the Marketing category.

When should I submit Christmas templates to Meta?

By early December. Meta says review can take up to 24 hours, and a rejection means fixing and resubmitting. Submitting on 20 December leaves no room for a second round.

Can I send Christmas messages to all my contacts?

Only to people who agreed to receive WhatsApp messages from your business. Bought or scraped lists break Meta’s policy and lead to blocks and reports, which lower your quality rating.

Can I send the same template in Malayalam and English?

Yes, as two templates. Meta doesn’t translate templates, so create one with the language set to English and one set to Malayalam, and send each to the matching group of customers.
